Bushing Buddy

The Squid Industries Bushing Buddy is machined using 6061 Aluminum and includes all accessories to precisely sand your own bushings.

Tools you will need for precise tuning: Squid Industries Bushing Lap, Micrometer/Calipers, Sandpaper, Torx driver

1) Measure the thickness of your blade around the pivot area using your micrometer or calipers to determine the bushing thickness you need.

2) Measure your original bushing thickness to make sure it is LARGER than your blade thickness. If your bushing is thinner than your blade, you will need thicker bushings to properly tune your balisong.

3) After you determine the thickness neeeded, separate the two halves of the lap and insert the white rubber ball into the bottom of the inner piece.

4) Place your bushing on top of the white rubber ball making sure it sits inside the hole.

5) Put the two halves back together ensuring that the bushing stays inside the slot on top of the rubber ball.

6) Insert the thin strip of sandpaper into the lower half with the abrasive side facing upwards (towards the bushing).

7) While applying even pressure to the halves, rotate the pieces in opposite directions to "grind" the bushing against the sandpaper. Twist approximately 20 rotations to sand off 0.00004-0.00008" from the bushing. Amount of material removed will depend on the amount of pressure applied.

8) Sand slowly and measure the thickness of the bushing often to prevent over-sanding which will deem the bushing unusable.

9) As the sandpaper gets worn, you will need to pull it to an unused area which will sand more efficiently.

10) Once you reach your desired thickness, reinstall the bushings into the blade to check tolerance. You can fine tune further if there is excessive handle play by sanding the bushings further.

11) Repeat steps 3-10 until you reach your desired tolerances.

*Although the bushing lap is a precise sanding tool, variances can occur and you may not be able to reach your desired tolerances due to: uneven sanding, over-sanding, uneven surface finish, blade thickness, and washer thickness. We always recommend reaching out and sending your product in for warranty if you are unable to reach your desired tune.
